چکیده

This paper studies the problem of routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) in the wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) all-optical networks without wavelength conversion. A new multi-objective integer linear program (MOILP) is proposed for the RWA which seeks to maximize the carried tra±c, minimize the cost, and minimize the required number of wavelengths. The MOILP is solved by a multi-objectibve genetic algorithm (MOGA) which combines gentic algorithms with the concept of Pareto optimality. MOGA treats design criteria as equally important objectives and uses no weighting during optimization. This make it possible to provide network designer with a number of near optimal trade-o® solutions. The simulation results for the case study, a six-node ring network, are presented.

A Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks

Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of  regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...

Biased Random-key Genetic Algorithms with Applications in Telecommunications

This paper surveys several applications of biased random-key genetic algorithms (BRKGA) in optimization problems that arise in telecommunications. We first review the basic concepts of BRKGA. This is followed by a description of BRKGA-based heuristics for routing in IP networks, design of survivable IP networks, redundant server location for content distribution, regenerator location in optical...

Comparative Analysis of Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithms used in WDM Optical Networks

This study aims at highlighting the Routing and Wavelength Assignment (RWA) problems in WDM Optical networks and describes the Routing Algorithms and their performance comparison. Since routing decisions play an important role in evaluating the blocking performance of a network it is critical to choose a wavelength assignment scheme that should take into account its compatibility with the chose...

Observations on using Genetic Algorithms for Routing and Wavelength-Assignment (RWA) in All-optical networks

All-optical networks based on wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) have emerged as a promising technology for network operators to respond to an increased demand for broadband service. All-optical networks consist of optical fiber links and nodes. Each node has a dynamically configurable optical switch or router, which supports wavelength based switching or routing. Configuring these optical ...

Heuristic Algorithms for Joint Configuration of the Optical and Electrical Layer in Multi-Hop Wavelength Routing Networks

An efficient and general graph-theoretic model (the Wavelength-Graph (WG)) has been proposed which enables solving the static Routing and Wavelength Assignment (RWA) problems in Multihop Wavelength Routing (WR) Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) Networks simultaneously, and as a unique feature it optimises the optical layer jointly with the electrical one. Based on the proposed WG model the...
